Martin Luther King, Jr., aged 39, is assassinated by James Earl Ray while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.
April 4, 1968 - 44 years ago today.

During the summer of 1963, a political rally was planned in support of civil and economic rights of African Americans.
In late August, hundreds of thousands of people would congregate in Washington D.C. for the event, known as the “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.”
From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the memorable moment of the day (and years later of the century) was a 17 minute speech that had the crowd in awe.
It was Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
