This day in history:
The First Battle of Passchendaele takes place in Belgium during WWI between Allied forces (Australia, New Zealand, and the UK) fighting against Germany.
During the course of the battle Allied forces win the fighting, but overall gain very little ground.
There are a total of 13,000 casualties; more than 2,700 of them being from New Zealand. This marks the largest loss of life in a single day in the nation’s history.
